Ultraman Rising Review

A heartwarming and wholesome story about family and parenthood, combined with a thrilling story of superheroes and monsters and the lines between them. The animation is pitch perfect, both innovative and stylish in ways that marry anime conventions with the vibrancy of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. The voice is cast authentic and genuine in their commitment to these characters. Ultraman Rising is a warm and welcoming love letter to the legacy of Ultraman that fans new and old will fall in love with it. While not as philosophical or serious as the Shin Ultraman, Rising fully realizes its own potential as an animated Ultraman film with a broader, family oriented appeal. Clever, adorable AND badass. I loved it. If I had any criticism whatsoever, as a fan, I’d have liked for them explore the origin of this particular take on Ultraman. We don’t really know where the original Ultraman came from before having a son to inherit his mantle. That’s not what this movie is about, though. So, it’s a very minor nitpick, as the movie is very much rooted in endeavors to explore it’s themes of legacy and fatherhood. Themes it does an excellent job of exporing. Ultraman Rising was a tremendously enjoyable way to spend 2 hours and offers a heartfelt story that goes well beyond simply punching monsters. Shuwatch!
